Körber Group invests in Berlin-based start-up “BigRep”

Körber is heading for strong growth – this also includes strategic investments. The company focuses on key new technologies and emerging markets. BigRep is a Berlin-based technology start-up that makes large-format 3D printers for additive manufacturing. In addition to standard industrial applications such as spare parts production, the printers are large enough to print furniture or designer objects out of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic.

Established in 2014, the company is headquartered in the vibrant Kreuzberg district of Berlin. Here, an interdisciplinary team with experts from 14 different nations work on the future of additive manufacturing.

“Over the last three years, BigRep has evolved into a highly competitive, steadily growing company with over 70 employees and offices in the US and Asia,” said Michael Horn, Member of the Group Executive Board of Körber AG. “We plan to leverage our minority stake in BigRep, along with the knowledge we’ve already gather from our joint venture with IRPD, to explore the opportunities presented by additive manufacturing even more intensively and to utilize it for additional customer applications within our Business Areas.”

“The investment will allow us to strongly foster our efforts for refining our products, expanding our global footprint and stepping up our sales activities,” noted René Gurka, the CEO of BigRep. “We look forward to working with Körber’s experienced team.”

BigRep will be part of the Business Area Corporate Ventures at Körber. This Business Area provides the perfect environment for companies that represent a new direction for the Group.
