A source of innovative ideas
With regard to logistics innovation, Körber Supply Chain relies primarily on providing support for ideas generated by the Business Units Systems Integration, Product Solutions, and Software. More specifically, the objective is to develop new business models, products, and services, and to optimize existing ones. Here, customer requirements are incorporated into the development process at the earliest possible stage. A pioneering feature is the overarching Körber innovation process, which is based on a stage-gate model in which all ideas undergo a multi-stage evaluation and selection procedure.
“This process enables us to learn how to operate more quickly and in a leaner manner and implement decisions at a very fast pace when we need to,” says Dr. Andreas Bahke, Chief Digital Officer (CDO) at Körber Supply Chain. “Within the framework of the innovation process, we’re now even willing to take the risk of making mistakes and then trying out something different just as quickly. That’s because it’s the only way to establish new innovative approaches that will benefit us over the long term.”
Another advantage offered by the Körber innovation process is that it also allows knowledge and technologies from the individual Business Units to be utilized in projects that have extensive relevance for other Business Areas at the Group. “As part of our innovation process, we look for ideas and user cases that have the potential to offer our customers genuine added value,” Dr. Bahke explains. “If while doing this we identify start-ups with new technologies that can help us achieve our goals in this regard, we begin examining possibilities for partnerships.”
